In Denmark, we’ve long enjoyed the luxury of clean drinking water – drawn directly from underground sources, treated only with basic aeration and filtration. But this precious resource is increasingly under threat from pollution, putting the security of our water supply at risk.
Going forward, monitoring microbial water quality will be crucial in protecting drinking water. This calls for reliable systems capable of both detecting microorganisms and documenting their presence through automated sampling and early-warning systems.
Off-grid power in the open landscape
These automated samplers will be strategically placed throughout the water distribution network to help pinpoint areas affected by contamination. However, many of these locations lack access to grid power – and that’s where AWILCO steps in.
With our compact, maintenance- and emission-free methanol fuel cells from SFC Energy, we provide reliable off-grid power solutions – ideal for remote locations. The systems deliver between 40W and 500W, and depending on fuel volume and energy needs, can operate autonomously for up to a year without supervision.
Strong backup solutions if the power goes out
We also offer hydrogen-powered backup systems for critical infrastructure – delivering from 1.7kW all the way up to 200kW. These fuel cell solutions are maintenance-free, silent, and 100% environmentally friendly, emitting only water vapor and heat. Larger units are even available in mobile trailer-based versions for flexible deployment.
Whether it’s powering remote monitoring systems or providing sustainable backup solutions – AWILCO helps secure the future of our drinking water infrastructure.
AWILCO presented fuel cell solutions for the water industry at the Danish Waterworks Fair in Aars, and we will also be present at the upcoming fair in Fredericia on 3 October 2025.
